It’s Race Week here at A Christmas Story House & Museum!  Ralphie and the gang are preparing a great event for you on Saturday.  This is the year of “I Triple Dog Dare You”  so Flick and his friends are waiting for you to stick your tongue on the flag pole!
 
Below is important race week and race day information including final packet pick up locations, transportation, gear check/after event changing facilities, spectator information, race day photography, and our coveted Major Awards.  Enjoy your time here in Cleveland, for our city has plenty to offer.  You won’t be saying, “Oh Fudge” on your way home.
 
PACKET PICK UP
The final packet pick-up location is listed below below.
We encourage runners to pick up their packets before race day to avoid long lines.
Dates: Friday, December 1st 2017 – 10am to 7pm
Saturday, December 2nd 2017 – 6:30am to 8am. RACE DAY!

RACE COURSES
NEW:  STARTING LINE LOCATION HAS CHANGED!
Both the 5K and 10K races start will start right in the heart of Cleveland in PUBLIC SQUARE! The starting line is at the northern most tip of Ontario Street. The 5K will run to the A Christmas Story House & Museum. The 10K will run to the House and back close to the original starting line on Ontario St. For the 5K runners, buses will be transporting you back near the starting line.
The race route travels from Downtown to West 20th Street, to Abbey Avenue, then to West 14th Street. The route then travels through the heart of the Tremont District before turning onto Rowley Ave. with the 5K ending at the A Christmas Story House & Museum. The 10K continues around the block on a similar route back downtown and finishes close to the original starting line on Ontario St. on the south side of Public Square.  Refer to the course map on the website.
 
RACE TRANSPORTATION 
OH FUDGE!
 Note:  there is no pre race transportation at Steelyard Commons.   There is no available space this year during race weekend.
 
There is no street parking available at A Christmas Story House & Museum on race morning.

Post-Race transportation will start at 9:30am at the corners of Buhrer Ave. and West 14th St., just 2 blocks west of the 5K finish line.

5K Transportation:  Back to Downtown
Busing starts at 9:30am

• Buses will be staged two (2) blocks from the finish line on the West 14th St. between Buhrer St. and Rowley Ave.

• Buses will run between 9:30am and 12pm so runners will have time to tour the A Christmas Story House & Museum and Gift Shop after the race.

• These buses will have signage that say:  “A Christmas Story House/Downtown”.

• Runners will be dropped off back Downtown near the corner of West 3rd and Superior Streets.  This point is just one (1) block west of the starting line, the Renaissance Hotel and Public Square.

• ADDED BONUS! The West Side Market. On your way back downtown, the buses will make a special stop at the one of Cleveland’s oldest gems, The West Side Market. Enjoy shopping in this 100+ year old establishment where you can purchase and enjoy Cleveland’s local specialty foods and delicacies from around the world!

10K Transportation: Downtown to the A Christmas Story House

• Runners and spectators will have the option of taking the race transportation back to the A Christmas Story House & Museum without the hassle of parking. Runners will have the morning to tour the A Christmas Story House & Museum and Gift Shop.

• Buses will be available at 10am downtown near the corner of West 3rd St. and Superior St., just two (2) blocks west of the starting line in Public Square. Buses run from 10am-noon.

• These buses will have signage that says: “A Christmas Story House/Downtown”.

• Once finished at the A Christmas Story House & Museum, you can catch the buses back downtown to the original pick up point on the corner of Huron St. and Prospect St.

• ADDED BONUS! The West Side Market. On your way back downtown, the buses will make a special stop at the one of Cleveland’s oldest gems, The West Side Market. Enjoy shopping in this 100+ year old establishment where you can purchase and enjoy Cleveland’s local specialty foods and delicacies from around the world!

• If you decide to stay at the A Christmas Story House location beyond 12pm, friends, UBER and TAXI services are available in the area.

 

GEAR CHECK AND SHOWER FACILITIES

Bag drop-off before the race at K2 Fitness, located at 75 Public Square, Cleveland, OH 44113.  K2 Fitness will also offer post-race showers and changing rooms. Saturday hours of operation are
7:00am-3:00pm.

 TEDDE MOORE AKA (MISS SHIELDS!) 

 
To celebrate, meet A Christmas Story’s favorite teacher Miss Shields!  Tedde Moore, the actor who played Ralphie’s teacher Miss Shields, will be joining us for the race!  You can take photos with her, reenact your favorite scenes and even get your medal signed by her!   We will have memorabilia for purchase to commerate this amazing weekend.  She will even sign your race bib “A+++”  All autographs are for purchase for a nominal fee.

As one of our partners, they are offering each participant 21+ a BOGO coupon for their stellar buffet! BOGO coupons are given to you at packet pick up and are valid Race Weekend through December 9th. Enjoy a nice dinner and walk by their holiday display windows for some Christmas fun!

THE OLD MAN’S BEER GARDEN!
 
 
The Beer Garden is back for a second season!  Compliments of Great Lakes Brewing Co. and the Rowley Inn.  Location change:  The Beer Garden will be located just beyond the finish line on the corner of Buhrer St and West 11th St.  We will be serving Great Lakes Brewing Co. seasonal favorite (and ours too) A Christmas Ale.  Doertmunder Lager Gold will also be on hand.  Beer is $5/12oz. cup and all proceeds from this will benefit the Foundation.
 
PARTY AT THE 10K FINISH LINE!
FEATURE BAND: FACTION CLEVELAND BAND!
 
 
The 5K may have the Old Man’s Beer Garden, but the 10K finish line has the band!
Enjoy Cleveland’s own rock, as you celebrate your finish!  The band plays current and traditional favorites, along with Christmas themes to keep the crowd hopping!   You won’t be saying “OH FUDGE” at the finish line!  Tunes go from 9:30am – 11:30am on race morning in Public Square.
 
ICE SKATING IN PUBLIC SQUARE
 
Make your experience in Cleveland memorable with some Ice Skating with your running friends and family!  Present your race bib for $2 off your skate, compliments of the City of Cleveland!
 
SPECTATOR INFORMATION
The best places to watch the race are at the starting line in Public Square, at Lincoln Park on West 14th St, and West 11th St (just before the 5K finish line at the A Christmas Story House & Museum). We also have two official “CHEER STATIONS” along the route! We are happy to announce this year that Grumpy’s Café on West 14th St and the Clark Bar on Clark Ave. will be celebrating and cheering on the runners! Come to these great establishments as they support the run! Spectators need to arrive between 8:00am-8:45 am to ensure positioning before the start of the race.
 
RACE DAY PHOTOGRAPHY
Give us your best Ralphie smile on race day!  Speedy Feet will be providing complimentary photos of the starting line and individual finish line pictures of the 5K and 10K.  They will be available for viewing on Race day December 5th.  Participants can access them on www.speedy-feet.com.
  • We will also have a back-drop available in the Renaissance Hotel!  Bring your camera and capture your favorite memories!
  • Want to enhance your pictures on race day?  Download the A Christmas Story House App on your phone!   It has lots of great backdrops you can choose from to make your photos a coveted Major Award!
AWARD CEREMONY
Presentation of awards will take place on race day at 11:00am at the Renaissance Hotel in the Ambassador Ballroom.  Refer to the website for specific age groups and details.
 
LOCAL RESTAURANTS
Show Mommy How the Piggies Eat!  Grab some great local food after the race!  Our website shares the establishment Tremont has to offer!
 
SAFETY/SECURITY
We wouldn’t be doing our job if we didn’t mention the safety of each and every runner/participant on the course.  In partnering with the City of Cleveland and it’s subsidiary’s and the A Christmas Story House, guns will not be permitted during this event.
 
This includes Red Ryder BB Guns, and any replicas/props that are used for costumes.  Participants are welcome to use cardboard or corrugated board etc… for props.  However, anything that looks like a weapon is subject to confiscation.  After the event, the item may be returned to the owner.
